In Tamil Literature, Marutham is defined as Rice Paddy Field and is described as one of the five landscapes of Tamil Nadu in Sangam Poetry. The costume design is inspired by the designer's eyesight over the paddy field, where the green tender rice paddy's stork emerges from the dark brown marshy ground.
The juxtaposition of the colours has played an enormous role in bringing the vision alive. The only cross-stitching border used in this entire costume, crossing from the bottom to the top, epitomises the paddy stork.
Arisi Collections 2022: The dancers adorned this costume to describe sounds that emanate from a rice field to the original verses from Kamaba Ramayanam.
