Double Ikat Cotton (Bali) / Semi Row Silk / Silk Blended Cotton Khun / Thread Woven Border (Bali)

COLOUR: BLACK | RUST | GOLD ORANGE COLOUR |

The costume design was deemed to reimagine the saree type worn by farmers from Tamil Nadu, South India. The original style of this draping is called Kosuvam, where the tying of the saree begins with pleats at the back and is wrapped around. This saree type is worn slightly higher to avoid getting wet in the fields.

This costume is predominantly made of double Ikat cotton fabrics from Bali in a combination of Black and Rust colours, visualising the prominence of the dancers against the stage set of the golden paddy field. The border was used in the shape of a sickle to symbolise harvesting, the joyous moment that all farmers look forward to.

The beautiful Khun weave used for the blouses is ethnic to the Western Ghat artisan community in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Arisi Collections 2022: This costume was worn by dancers in the scenes of ploughing the field and harvesting the rice grains.
